My mom got hit by a car. (Life is short. Remind your family how much you love them.)

Did you say “I love you” to your family and friends recently?

My mom got hit by a car the other day. The driver hit
her knee and she fell down in the street in shock.

I made a video update here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YwkUAc8ePA

Brice and his mom, Aziza

Sleepy Brice and Aziza, the hyper energetic mom

I was really shocked.. But the good news is she’s still alive!

She’s a bit paranoid of crossing the street now… so I’m keeping an eye on her to see if there’s any psychological issues I need to report from this accident today.

We have already forgiven the driver. It could’ve happened to anyone really..

I hope your family and loved ones are doing well?

Life is extremely short. I wanted to write this to remind you
to tell the people in your life how important they are
and how much you love them!

Don’t wait too long. I hope you’ll put the past behind you.

Sometimes just saying “I forgive you” or “I love you” will make
a big difference in your life.

A bientot,

Brice

P.S: Leave me a comment below on the blog and I’ll respond to you.

A TCK just emailed me and said someone in her family got his first and only “I love you” from his dad on his death bed. Now he tells everyone how much he loves them.

You may find this post interesting on grief: Grief expert: “My life is good, but why don’t I feel that way?”

Hey Brice, I just saw this now. I'm glad your mom is ok!

I completely agree...it really is one of the best things we can do: tell our loved ones how much we love them, everyday! =)

Best wishes to you and your Mom!

Brice, I'm so glad your Mom is okay! Yes, we all get these reminders once in a while of how uncertain and precious life and relationships are. Thanks for the reminder!
    Warmest Regards,

Salut Brice - je suis vraiment désolée d'apprendre que ta maman a eu un accident. Mais soulagée que ça va bien.
De tout mon coeur je te remercie de nous forcer, tous les jours, à devenir un peu plus humains. It's a struggle we sometimes forget to fight, and I am the first to admit that it happens on a regular basis.
J'espère que ta mère récupère bien du choc, je vous embrasse.
    -Laurence J.

After the accident, I'm sure the love in you for your beautiful mom is bein' given more and more each day.

I never had a chance to tell someone I truly love just how much I love and care, ev'ry chance I ever expected was out of reach. But the love in me never fades and never dies.

Thanks for the impressive story you have shared with us all.

10 days ago, a 16yr old son of a familyfriend died. Out of the nowhere he had a brainstroke and within 12hrs his brain died and they put him of the machines. It was a shock to all of us! So suddenly and so unexpected! Luckily everyone knew that Sergio was surrounded by very lovingly family members and friends. It was so touching that the entire school came to church!¨

Yes, I therefore understand your message and share the awareness of telling each other how much you love them. It is one of the basic needs of life!

I too have a nearly 16yr old daughter and was so taken in by this story. It is just really really hard to come over a loss, alltough it is part of nature.

I am glad to hear your mom is allright and hope she can come over the shock soonly.

    je vous embrasse,
    Yvonne
  • Ahh.. I can relate to this. My younger bro's friend died from a school bus accident.. it left a strong impression on him and made him realize his own mortality. Thank you for sharing Yvonne, my thoughts and prayers are with your daughter. Je t'embrasse

Thanks for the reminder of the importance of stating love and forgiveness. I hope your Mom is still doing well.

I can relate to this blog on a personal level too, in that I myself was hit by a car in 2002, the bumper hit me squarely on the knee too and at age 34, I've got the knee of a geriatric. But, like you said about your mom, I am so very aware of how lucky I am to be alive.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's not only is it important to tell the ones you love how much you love them because you could lose them, but also because you yourself could get lost, so to speak...! It really CAN happen to anyone.
  • I agree Lizanne, it's very important.. thanks for sharing

Gracias por recordarme de esta verdad! I was in a serious accident not to long ago. The thought of almost dying and never seeing my family again changed my life.
    >>my prayers are with your Mum : )
  • I'm so glad you're still alive, Elisabetta - would love to learn how this experience changed your life .. gracias
  • Ben
I never let a day go by where i don't say I love you to my mom.
  • That's awesome Ben!!

yeah, it's quite difficult to learn saying "I love you" to those who hardly or never tell you. I grew up without hearing it and hearing it is so important. you can't always understand your parents' love towards you expressed by their material care for you. eg my parents support me financially in my studies but they're so critical (especially my dad) and hardly say anything encouraging (dad never). it took my long time to learn it. well, it was possible with God. =)
  • You are right.. It is hard to give when we haven't received, my wish is to create a world where people can be in a loving & encouragement environment so that this can be avoided .. thanks for sharing LD

Thank you Brice, for sharing this message with all of us. You are so young, and motivated that I know this story will reach thousands of us.
    Give your mom a hug,
From another mom of 3 TCK's
  • Your kids are very lucky to have you, thanks for your love. Hugs

Hi, Brice--this is why I always say I want to have my funeral BEFORE I die--(in fact--I think that would be a great business to start!). It's amazing to hear the kind words and admiration people express at funerals about the deceased--my motto is--tell people how much you love and admire them directly--don't wait to say so at their funeral.
Anyway--I'm so glad you still have your mom! She may have to slow down a bit--but she's still your mom, and she loves you!
    Be kind to yourselves!
  • What a great idea Rachel! Thanks for sharing that wisdom - I think I may want to have mine too! Love you

I can't remember the last time I told my mother I loved her...I tell my husband and children that I love them almost every day though. My mother and I have a difficult relationship. I sometimes wonder why she was never demonstrative towards me. She is quite a cold person, well towards her own children anyway!
I will try and send her something to tell her I love her. It's certainly hard because there's a lot of hurt and pain there in my heart...

I am so glad your mum is ok. What a relief and what an awakening of perspectives!!

Thanks for reminding me of how important it is to let loved ones know they are cherished. :)

    Bisous Brice xoxo

Merci Karma, I'm inspired by you :) Forgiveness isn't easy.. You may have had an unfair past, but I know you don't have to have an unfair future.

    Thanks for your inspiration!
